Driver pursuit ends in river rescue

The car which came to a halt at the entrance to a field, crashing into a farm gate.

Mitchelstown gardaí fished an alleged crazed cocaine-intoxicated driver from a river after a high speed chase across narrow country roads and farmland.

The dramatic incident happened last Wednesday evening as gardaí on patrol, tried to talk to the occupants of a suspicious vehicle.

When they tried to stop the car, it drove away at speed and a pursuit began. The car, carrying three men, careened around country roads and even tried to drive across farmland.

The vehicle came to a halt when the driver attempted to drive through a metal gate guarding the entrance to a field of cattle. Such was the ferocity of the impact, that the gate was severely damaged.
