Dog welfare concerns raised at ‘Town market

The welfare of two dogs, allegedly on sale at Mitchelstown market, raised public concerns on Thursday last.

Animal charity, My Lovely Horse Rescue, have described scenes of two dogs kept in a small crate at the Thursday Market in Mitchelstown last week, which were allegedly for sale, as ‘absolutely disgraceful’.

Video footage of two dogs, which appear to be a Yorkshire Terrier and Jack Russell, in a small crate with no water or food, circulated online drawing a strong public response condemning the conditions the dogs were being kept in.

In a statement shared by My Lovely Horse, they said the dogs were reportedly being offered for sale for €200 each and were ‘sitting in a crate for hours, with concerns raised that they had no access to water’.
