A motion before Fermoy Town Council last week requesting the council to write to the Office of Public Works (OPW) seeking an extension of the free parking in the off street car parks, was shelved when Councillor Noel McCarthy left the meeting after taking exception to a remark made by Mayor Olive Corcoran.

Cllr. McCarthy wanted the backing of his council colleagues for the request to the OPW to extend the free parking they are currently funding, up until the Christmas period when the Council itself waives car parking charges. The current period of free parking lasts until October 31st.

Two other motions tabled by Cllr. McCarthy also weren’t discussed as he’d left the meeting. Both had to do with footpaths. He was calling on the council to repair the footpath outside Charlie Mac’s pub on MacCurtain Street and also to do footpath repairs on the side entrance of a dwelling at De Valera Drive in the Beechfield Estate in Fermoy.
