Dairygold’s announcement last October of its €33m investment in its milk processing facilities at Mitchelstown has been referred to as 'one of the highlights of Enterprise Ireland’s work with main dairy industry players in 2013', according to a recent report.

Enterprise Ireland’s Annual Reports and Accounts for the year 2013 revealed that this investment played a significant part in deriving maximum gains from the projected growth in milk volumes with the abolition of milk quotas post-2015.

Local Labour TD Sean Sherlock has welcomed the strong research presence in the report, which was released last week.

It revealed that €92 million was spent on commercializing research and collaborative research and development for industry, figures which the Minister for Research and Innovation considers ‘hugely encouraging’.

“There are positive signs from the 2013 year on the work enterprise Ireland is carrying out with companies that are vital to the recovery,” Deputy Sherlock said.

“139 of our client companies were engaged in substantial R&D projects of above €1m spend per year, and 858 Enterprise Ireland client companies were engaged in significant R&D projects of above €100k spend per year-which is hugely encouraging,” he added.

The report also confirmed that 2013 saw the best performance in over a decade in export growth and net job creation by Enterprise Ireland client companies, with an increase of 5443 jobs.
