Local Jockey has success at Millstreet show
On Sunday, 5th October, West Muskerry hosted the Cork County cross country even-ages in Carridadrohid. After all the hard training that has gone on over the previous weeks, Grange Fermoy had a large number of athletes taking part at this event.
After the rain during the week it was feared that the conditions would be very slippery but on the day the field was very dry and very firm, which made the conditions ideal for all runner.
The juvenile athletes had to wait for a while as the first two races were the U23 and novice races. But when these races were over, it down to business.
First up was the girls U10 with Alycia Cross, Zoe Cross, Caoimhe Griffin and Brid Cotter. In the boys U10 there was Owen Magner and Stephen Rea.
The girls U12 had 6 runners taking part with Amanda O’Sullivan, Sarah Dineen, Hannah Maher, Chloe Flynn, Maria Leamy and Ruby Mullen.
The boys U12 saw Sean Palmer finishing in 10th position, Conor Griffin finishing in 24th and Jamie Magner in 43th.
The girls U14 had a great race by bringing home the team bronze county medal. First home for Grange was Eva Langford, then Letitia Fitzgibbon, Roisin Palmer, Amy Rea and Gillian Owens.
The U14 boys had Fionn Magner and Liam Fox.
Even though the field was dry on the day, it was still a tough course and all our athletes ran brilliantly on the day and wore their club colours with pride. Everyone who took part should be proud of themselves, so keep up the good work.
Upcoming events
Next Sunday, 12th October, all roads lead to Conna where St Catherines hold the uneven-ages county cross country starting at 12.
Training
Training is currently on going every Tuesday and Thursday nights in St Colman’s pitch starting at 7pm. If you are taking part in the cross country it is important to turn up for training.
