With Covid-19 cases rampant throughout the country, a number of callers to The Avondhu this week firmly blamed ‘non-compliance’, ‘parties’, ‘sheebeens’ and ‘lock-ins’ for the rise in cases.

Some callers stated that Garda authorities should act to seek out illegal outlets and have them closed down immediately and those involved be prosecuted for what one caller termed ‘their total irresponsibility’.

Equally, people have been critical of people from abroad ‘totally flouting the guidelines’ by not self isolating.

With schools in the main closed until the end of the month, another caller said it was ‘a bad move’, saying all it does is ‘allow groups of youngsters meet up totally unsupervised with no compliance regarding social distancing or the wearing of masks’.

With a whopping 7,836 new cases confirmed for the 29 counties this Wednesday evening coupled with 17 deaths, Level 5 restrictions have been ramped up further in an effort to stem the spread of infection.
