Local councillor and Mayor of the County of Cork, Frank O’Flynn, will not be joining in the parades in Fermoy or Mitchelstown this year, as he is leading a delegation to Chicago for St Patrick’s Day. Joining him on the journey are Fermoy councillor Noel McCarthy, Mallow’s Cllr Ian Doyle and Bandon’s Cllr Gillian Coughlan. Four members of Cork County Council staff will also be taking the trip to the Windy City.

The visit to Chicago is not the only trip to be taken by local authority representatives and employees, as last Friday another group flew to Detroit. This group consists of the Deputy Mayor of County Cork, Cllr John Healy, Carrigtwohill and another Mallow-based councillor, John Paul O’Shea. Two members of Cork County Council staff have travelled with them.

The New York delegation will depart this Friday and includes two more councillors, Cllr Alan Coleman of Innishannon and Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, Youghal. Also visiting the Big Apple are the Chief Executive of the council, Valerie O’Leary, and the Director of Services Patrick Liddy. This delegation will attend the annual St Patrick’s Day parade, as well as undertake meetings with Tourism Ireland and the IDA.
