And then there were seven! Cork innovates, the award-winning initiative to drive entrepreneurship in the region, have announced a shortlist of seven companies for the 2014 €30,000 bursary purse.
The selected companies - TIC Ltd, Ottera Technology, Inspect4, AventaMed, Pundit Arena, Mountain Man Brewing and Bia Beauty - will now go forward to a live pitching session at the inBusiness inCork event on November 14th in City Hall, Cork.
The bursary purse will provide the winning company with a suite of services from advertising, financial advice, mentoring, PR, mobile and data packages, Cork Chamber membership supports, along with a cash investment, all to the value of €30,000.
“We had a phenomenal number of bursary applications this year ranging from tech startups, healthcare, food and beverage companies to disruptive business services and solutions, and for the first time beauty and agri-business companies. It was extremely difficult to narrow the list down, which is why we have seven finalists this year as opposed to the usual five,” said Siobhan Finn, Project Director, Cork innovates.
“I am very excited to see how these companies perform at the live pitching stage on November 14th in City Hall,” she added.
HAVING THE EDGE
“Innovation is a real driver of business success,” said Anthony O’Mara, Chairman Cork innovates and judge. “Each company shortlisted this year has either created a new business model or a highly innovative solution; the judges recognised this as giving their applications that edge for the Cork innovates bursary.”
Judges included Paul Healy (Rubicon CIT), Mary Power (Westboro Partners), Eamon Curtin (UCC), Brian Barrett (EY), and Anthony O’Mara (Cork innovates). Sponsors of the Cork innovates bursary include the Irish Examiner, Red FM, AIB, Westboro Partners, CAMEO Communications, Brook Catering and Cork Chamber.
