Confusion over ownership of Tallow Church of Ireland cemetery

‘Responsibility of the cemetery is ‘falling between two stools’, and that it is important to find out who is responsible so as to allow people to regularly visit the cemetery again.’ – John Pratt

Following a request by Cllr James Tobin at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan/Lismore Municipal District, senior executive officer Ray Moloney is to find out who has the ownership of the Church of Ireland cemetery in Tallow.

The cemetery’s gates are currently locked and the grounds themselves have become overgrown with weeds.

Speaking to The Avondhu, fellow Tallow councillor, John Pratt, chairperson of the community council in Tallow, says that responsibility of the cemetery is ‘falling between two stools’, and that it is important to find out who is responsible so as to allow people to regularly visit the cemetery again.

The community council in Tallow has been maintaining the cemetery, according to Cllr Pratt, which is located just off the main street in the town.

“The community council has been maintaining it up to now, it had gone wild again recently, and we would’ve been liaising with the Waterford County Council as well, in order to know what we could and couldn’t do."
