Confirmation that local SouthDoc services to reopen

Confirmation that the Fermoy/Mitchelstown SouthDoc services and the Kanturk SouthDoc services will reopen after being shut during the Covid restrictions, has been received by Cork East TD, Seán Sherlock.

Speaking on the news, Mr Sherlock said: "I have received confirmation the Fermoy/Mitchelstown SouthDoc will reopen and we are awaiting a definitive date for that."

"I want to pay tribute to the staff who presently are redeployed to other centres. It is good news, this is a vital service.

LOCAL SERVICES

Although a definitive date has to be confirmed for the resumption of the service, the importance of allowing GPs back to work at a local level was emphasised.

“We're still waiting for a date for the resumption, but I know that staff have been communicated with. I will continue to pursue the matter but this is a vital service for the whole region.

It's good to know that GPs in the area will be able to go back into their own centre and continue the relationships with patients. Local GPs should deliver local services. We all want to pay tribute to the work that GPs and nursing staff are doing in this vital service," Deputy Sherlock concluded.
