The repairs on Roundhill Road close to Barna Cross in Galbally have been completed by the council, thanks to the community pulling together for contributions so that the work could be done under the Community Involvement Scheme.

According to local man Jim Fitzgerald, there was a very dangerous hump on the road and it narrowed, so drivers often couldn’t see if there was anything coming, something that has led to a number of accidents and near misses in the past.

The road would bring people from Anglesboro to Galbally and would be used by many people, so the repairs have been widely welcomed. The works were also due to the campaigning of Fianna Fail councillor Eddie Ryan and he said that more than twenty people made contributions to have the work completed.

“There’s not a hope that it would have been done otherwise. It was a danger and hazard, but now people can see up the cross. Visibility is improved and it’s safer,” he told The Avondhu.

OTHER WORKS

There are also CIS works to be completed in Kilbehenny and Knockainey. Cllr Ryan had a motion passed recently to have the criteria for works on the CIS programme to be changed, as he finds them restrictive and he has called for things like parking at schools and churches, and the removal of dangerous bends, to be considered for the scheme.
