Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, Fermoy is calling for communities and projects in the Avondhu Blackwater area to apply for the help of Rural Social Scheme (RSS) participants.

The RSS initiative requires participants to undergo work that will benefit the local community. That work falls under several broad categories, and it is from these areas that Avondhu Blackwater seeks applications of assistance:

Maintaining and enhancing waymarked ways, agreed walks and bog roads; Energy conservation assistance for older people and the less well-off; Village and countryside enhancement; Social care and care of older people; Community care for pre-school and after-school groups; Environmental, community and sporting facility maintenance and care-taking; Projects relating to not-for-profit cultural and heritage centres; Community administration or clerical duties; Any other appropriate community project identified during the course of the scheme.

Participants assigned to any qualifying communities or projects will work 19.5 hours per week. In the event that the number of applications exceeds the number of participants, excess applications will be held in reserve for future allocations.

All project applications must be accompanied by a detailed plan, indicating the timetable for completion of any tasks being put forward under the application. All project applicants must be constituted as a limited company.

Those interested in making an application, or those looking for further information on the initiative, should contact Marie O’Brien on 025 33411 or marie@avondhublackwater.com. The Avondhu Blackwater area spreads from the border with Waterford in the east to Mallow and Blarney in the west.
