Eirgrid's 'Gridlink' programme has marked a corridor across South Tipperary from Carrick-on-Suir almost to Kilbehenny, just south of Cahir, north of Burncourt, across Mitchelstown Caves and from there via Ballyporeen across the Kilworth Mountain just west of Araglin.

Communities in these areas claim they will be adversely affected by the project, given the obscenity of 200 thirteen-storey-high pylons carrying several high voltage cables (400Kv) being strung across the county 'with absolute disregard for tourism interests, communiy interests, protected species, protected views, SACs etc.'

"The corridor as marked is one of three one kilometre wide corridors from which the final decision will be made. The other two possibilities are in County Waterford but given the level of protest from all the affected communities in that county, Tipperary could be an easy target," a spokesperson for one group in South Tipp said.

"All communities and organisations must take action and organise now. Submissions to be with Eirgrid before November 26."
