Coast Guard conduct long range medevac

The Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter, R117 has completed the evacuation of an injured crewman from a Norwegian fishing vessel located over 100 miles off the South West coast.

The injured man was taken on-board the Coast Guard helicopter, and was transferred to the care of the HSE on arrival at Kerry Airport.

The operation was coordinated by the Coast Guard Co-ordination Centre in Valentia.

The Coast Guard were initially alerted by UK Coastguard who received a request earlier this morning at which stage, following consultation with the Irish Coast Guard, the vessel was requested to proceed into the Irish Search and Rescue Region to enable the evacuation.
