Clubs around North Cork are being urged to apply for the third round of funding under the Sports Capital Programme, with €40 million allocated to the fund this year.
Minister Seán Sherlock told The Avondhu that “There is a strong sporting tradition in North Cork, and the Government is investing in that tradition. My ministerial colleague, Michael Ring, has overseen €130 million of funding since 2011. This is testament to the Government’s belief in the value and power of sport to strengthen communities and gives people greater opportunities to engage in sport.
He continued: “The programme is open from this week and I would encourage all clubs to apply for funding in the areas that they need it – be it facilities or equipment. Sport has a positive, binding influence on our communities and the Government is recognising that by investing in our communities through the Sports Capital Programme,” stressed Minister Sherlock.
The Sports Capital Programme is the Government’s primary vehicle for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment, funding such items as natural grass sports pitches, tracks and courts, floodlighting, artificial sports pitches, tracks, security fencing, etc.
All those who are interested should ensure that they are registered on the online system before 5pm on Friday, 10th April (if not already registered) and to get their applications in online at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie before 5pm on Friday, 24th April.
