As a result of a motion that Cllr John Murphy proposed at the last council meeting that repairs be carried out to the old railway viaduct in Fermoy, he has been informed that ongoing discussions with Avondhu Blackwater Development and other interested bodies have been taking place with a view to opening the viaduct to the public as part of a circular amenity walk.

Cllr Murphy described the news as 'a welcome development' as the viaduct has recently fallen into disrepair.

"This would be a wonderful tourist and local amenity for Fermoy providing a wonderful view of the beautiful Blackwater Valley. The viaduct is world renowned since being used as a location in the film 'The Blue Max' and this reopening would provide a major boost to the local economy," Cllr Murphy said.
