Independent councillor June Murphy, has strongly criticised the conduct of her former party Sinn Fein, challenging the party on the motives behind their proposed budget amendments, at a meeting in County Hall on Monday.

She said there was some merit to Sinn Fein’s proposals, but that they were ‘not serious’ about them.

“If they were serious about the proposals they would have had them in before the morning of the budget. The leader of the party (in Cork County Council) sits on the CPD committee. He had ample opportunity to raise them. Their excuse for not bringing them forward sooner was that they did not get questions answered until four o’clock on Friday,” she said.

Cllr Murphy added that she did not accept this as a valid reason and if that was their excuse this year, then what was their excuse last year when they sent their budget proposals in at 8:45am in the morning. She said as a former party member, she knows Sinn Fein’s tactics.
