Thousands turn out to welcome home ‘unstoppable’ Limerick

Celebrations will continue for some time in the aftermath of Limerick’s history-making exploits in Croke Park last Sunday.

Praise is being heaped on the county’s hurlers following a comprehensive victory over traditional kingpins Kilkenny – all of it richly deserved.

Gardai and local authority officials estimate there were 20,000 in Limerick’s Pery Square last Monday night for ‘the homecoming’. Recently elected Mayor of Limerick City & County Gerald Mitchell, got his tenure off to the best possible start by being the individual who formally welcomed the team back to Shannon-side.
