In Castletownroche, local volunteers took it upon themselves to investigate the possibility of delivering a multi-purpose AstroTurf facility.
Following months of intensive effort, this picturesque village now has an amenity that will be of huge benefit to all age groups.
Speaking to The Avondhu at last Sunday’s official opening, activist, Lesley Sheehan, said bringing the AstroTurf to fruition was the result of close community co-operation, in addition to tremendous support from the public.
“The school’s Board of Management, the community centre committee and the GAA all got behind the project. It’s involved a lot of hard work, so it’s great to see it being officially opened today,” she said.
