Gardai are investigating a break-in to St Mary’s National School Clogheen over last weekend.
The break-in to the school was discovered on Monday morning when the school re-opened after the weekend. A significant sum of cash was stolen from a prefab building on the school grounds.
Gardai have now appealed to the staff of schools not to leave cash on their premises overnight and over weekends.
The warning was issued by a spokesman for Cahir Garda Station, who urged principals and teachers not to store any cash collected for book rental schemes, charity collections and other projects on school buildings as burglars were targeting them.
He issued his advice in the wake of break-ins to Clogheen and Thomastown Primary Schools between last Wednesday and Monday this week.
The Cahir Garda Station spokesman appealed to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity of Clogheen Primary School over the past few days to contact Cahir Garda Station at (052) 7441222.
