Carzone, Ireland’s leading motoring marketplace, recently announced the appointment of Conor Faughnan as its Independent Motoring Expert, strengthening its commitment to trusted, consumer-first guidance at a time of significant change for Irish motorists.

One of Ireland’s most established public affairs and media professionals, Conor Faughnan brings decades of independent expertise at a moment when Irish motorists are facing rising ownership costs, regulatory change and growing confusion around vehicle choice.

Long regarded as a trusted national voice on transport, safety and consumer rights, he has built a reputation for plain-spoken analysis and for challenging industry and policymakers where consumer interests are at stake. His appointment signals a deliberate move by Carzone to strengthen independent scrutiny and expert commentary for motorists navigating an increasingly complex market.

Conor began his career as a traffic reporter with AA Roadwatch before going on to serve for many years as a director and spokesperson for AA Ireland, where he became a familiar and authoritative voice for motorists nationwide. Known as a determined advocate for consumer interests, he has frequently acted as a lobbyist and representative on road safety and transport issues, often challenging both industry and policymakers.

He currently serves as a Board Member of the Injuries Resolution Board and has previously advised the Royal Irish Automobile Club, where he also served as CEO. At European level, Conor was involved in the development of several landmark road safety initiatives, including the European New Car Assessment Programme and the European Road Assessment Programme, shaping standards that continue to influence vehicle safety today. He has also been a judge at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition since 2017.

In his role with Carzone, Conor will deliver independent commentary and analysis on key motoring issues, including vehicle choice, ownership costs, safety, regulation and emerging technologies. His role will be clearly separated from commercial considerations, ensuring motorists have access to informed, impartial guidance grounded in consumer interest.

Commenting on the appointment, Ailish Connolly of Carzone said: “Conor’s credibility with the Irish public is unmatched. His career has been defined by independence, clarity and a willingness to challenge where necessary. That aligns exactly with what Carzone wants to offer motorists as they navigate an increasingly complex market.”

Conor Faughnan added: “Motoring has rarely been more complicated or more expensive for Irish consumers. Access to clear, independent advice matters. I am looking forward to contributing analysis and perspective that helps motorists make better informed decisions, without spin or agenda.”

Conor’s analysis and commentary will feature regularly across Carzone.ie and Carzone’s social channels, where motorists can access practical guidance, expert insight and an independent perspective on the issues shaping car ownership in Ireland today.
