Cork Carers Association has issued a request for volunteers to take part in the upcoming Womens Mini Marathon, set to take place on Sunday, 28th September, on behalf of the Carers Association.

The Carers Association is a national voluntary organisation for and of family carers in the home. Family carers provide high levels of care to a range of people including frail older people, people with severe disabilities, the terminally ill and children with special needs. Whilst the role is primarily carried out by adults, there are considerable numbers of young people who take on the role and often go unrecognised along with their own social, health and educational needs.

If anyone is interested, they can contact Rose O’Dwyer, Family Carer Support Officer, on 086-0487573 or e-mail her at corksupport@carersireland.com. Alternatively, call into their office at 9 Tuckey Street, Cork.

NOMINATIONS DEADLINE

Nomination are being accepted for the Carer of the Year Awards.

The Carers Association are committed to raising awareness of the important role carried out by carers in Ireland, through the annual Carer of the Year Awards. These awards not only raise awareness, but also highlight the need for improved services.

A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 carrying out significant caring tasks and assuming a level of responsibility for another person, which would normally be taken by an adult.

Nominations can be made online at www.carersireland.com - the deadline for nominations is 26th September.
