Cappoquin Poultry has been placed in liquidation with a receiver due to put the factory up for sale this Friday.
The belagueured company was placed in administration by the High Court this time last year on foot of an application from feed supplier Henry Good, the company’s largest creditor who was owed €3.9M. The feed supplier has since gone out of business. A consortium of farmer suppliers subsequently bought the troubled business but rumblings of trading difficulties had persisted in recent months. The company was wound up following a meeting held in the Lismore House Hotel on Friday last.
Some 70 workers have been employed in the factory in recent months.
Whether or not a new buyer can be found remains to be seen. IFA National Poultry Committee chairman, Alo Mohan said he is confident there will be, but stressed that supermarkets have a responsibility to sell Irish chickens to support the industry.
