‘Can do’ spirit shines through in Ballyduff despite rain

Despite the poor weather conditions, there was plenty to keep young and old entertained at Ballyduff’s gala day.

The weather did its best to put a damper on the recent gala day in Ballyduff. Conditions were far from ideal, however, fair play to the organising committee and their dedicated volunteers, they pressed on regardless and indeed some the younger folk weren't in the least put off by the rain and drizzle.

The programme of events was curtailed a bit, nevertheless, there was plenty to keep people entertained and the fine facility that is Ballyduff Millennium Hall came into its own. There was an impressive selection of produce, artefacts and crafts on display and people enjoyed the refreshments.

Musically, Lana Gibson and Hell for Leather entertained patrons in St Michael's Hall on Friday and Saturday respectively. Both acts were excellent. The hall itself was the focal point for an exhibition on Thursday night and there was a wealth of material made available that illustrated how far this community centre has come in 70 years.

The gala dance (disco) on the closing night of the festival is always a big attraction for the young and young at heart and as the night wore on, the hall filled up nicely. The festival committee had lots of stewards and helpers on duty and all manned their positions until the early hours.

Festivals such as Ballyduff are a significant undertaking for any community and bring with them, a considerable work load - without volunteers making themselves and their services available, these events couldn't take place. The committee wish to thank everyone who assisted in any way over the last 10 days.
