Call put out to secondary schools as SkillsFest ’24 launches in Youghal

At the recent launch of SkillsFest in Youghal.

A competition to test some key vocational skills of 5th Year and LCA students has been launched by Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal. 

Students from 10 neighbouring post-primary schools in east Cork and west Waterford (Lismore, Midleton, Dungarvan) will compete for an array of awards in 7 areas of skill in SkillsFest ’24; namely in Construction, Engineering, Home Economics, Design and Graphics, Art, I.T., along with Hair and Beauty.

Art, I.T., Hair and Beauty are aimed specifically at LCA students in both 5th Year and 6th Year (LCA1 and LCA2), while the remaining competitions are geared for 5th Year students.

The main aim of the SkillsFest is to highlight and promote young people’s vocational skills. Staging the event will cost in the region of €25,000 and has been generously sponsored by Tomar Trust, a philanthropic trust founded by the late Tom Cavanagh RIP.

The competitions will be held on Friday, February 23rd in Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal and has been endorsed by both SOLUS (the State agency, developing skills to fuel Ireland’s future) and NAPD (the national association representing the country’s post primary school principals and deputy principals).
