Heavy rainfall experienced during January and February has brought a spotlight onto the issue of flooded roads.

Like many villages, Castlelyons is having to deal with this problem, and Cllr William O’Leary is asking for action to be taken by Cork County Council to alleviate the flooding near the premises of Kearney’s Machinery.

“This flooded section is very close to the village, and it is a problem,” said Cllr O’Leary.

He went on to point out that Castlelyons is a very active village, with plenty of people out walking and jogging.

The flooded stretch of road has caused considerable difficulty for residents, according to the councillor.

“I understand that Council staff are stretched right now, and that there has been unprecedented rainfall in recent months,” said Cllr O’Leary, before he called on the Council to take remedial action.

“We need drainage of some sort in the area,” he concluded.
