Bus Éireann is being urged to address safety concerns from its bus drivers over the positioning of a new bus stop near to the Beechfield Junction on the northside of Fermoy.

The relocation of the bus stop/shelter in the area is part of upgrade works to the junction which is to be signalised. However, the design for the new bus stop has given rise to concerns over passenger and pedestrian safety from Bus Éireann drivers.

The Avondhu spoke with Cork East TD Seán Sherlock this week after he was contacted by Bus Éireann drivers whon wished to highlight their concerns over health and safety at the new bus stop.

“We all welcome the works. We’ve all supported the funding for this over a period of years, it has been a multi-stakeholder effort to get this over the line. There is an issue there of concerns that doesn’t impact on the pedestrian lights but does impact on passengers who will be using the new bus stop,” he said.
