BREAKING – Garda and Army bomb disposal units returned to the Castleterry area of Ballindangan this Saturday morning after a resident discovered a grenade in his front garden.
The alarm was raised shortly after 10am when the owner of a house, who had just returned from a holiday abroad, reversed his vehicle from his driveway and discovered the grenade.
Gardaí and Army disposal units were quickly on the scene and carried out a controlled explosion of the grenade in a nearby field.
It is understood that those responsible for the grenade targeted the wrong house. At least three families were evacuated from their homes whilst Gardaí investigated.
The Avondhu reported on Thursday 21st that a security cordon was put in place by Gardaí as army experts swept the Castleterry area in search of a device.
Gardaí confirmed to The Avondhu that they attended an incident in Castleterry but later declared it a hoax.
More to follow in Thursday’ Avondhu.
