A car, driven into a bonfire at Ardmhuilinn, Mitchelstown caused a major scare on Hallowe’en night, and when fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene, they had fireworks thrown at them. Fireworks were also thrown into the fire trucks which, according to brigade chief Michael Carolan, was ‘extremely dangerous’.
The incident also resulted in an ambulance being called when a comment was made by an onlooker to a fireman: “We hope the man in the boot got out’. The ambulance arrived from Fermoy, joining two units of Mitchelstown Fire Brigade and Gardai at the scene. One resident said it was ‘ridiculous’ having ambulance resources taken up, ‘all for a stupid prank’.
Michael Carolan, Mitchelstown Fire Brigade, said that firefighters responding to the call had fireworks thrown at them and also thrown into the fire trucks when they attended the blaze on Monday night at approximately 9:30pm.
Mr Carolan said it was ‘extremely dangerous’ for those responding to the call to have fireworks thrown into the fire trucks. Gardai confirmed they were also in attendance at the bonfire.
