Oliver Fitzgerald has always fished, and since his youth he has taken boats out onto the Blackwater River for this purpose.
But now he says that his access to the river is being curtailed.
Two metal bollards, locked into the ground, are blocking vehicular access to a slip which is located just beyond Ashe Quay in Fermoy and near the start of the Barnane Walk.
Fermoy’s Rowing Club overlooks the slip. This ramp is one of the key points of access to the river for fishers like Oliver, who use larger boats that need to be transported on a trailer.
