A drug addled driver caught speeding on the motorway at 180 kilometres per hour is set for court.

Gardaí from the Fermoy-based road policing unit were on patrol on the M8 near Mitchelstown when they spotted a BMW speeding past at 180kph on February 1.

They pursued the speeding car and when they pulled over the car, they discovered the vehicle was out of tax for six months, then things got only worse for the reckless driver when the gardaí found that they were also allegedly under the influence of cocaine.

The BMW motorist is now set for a day out in the district court.

A garda spokesman said: “They say trouble comes in 3’s. 1: Fermoy RPU detected this BMW travelling at a ridiculous 180kph on the M8 near Mitchelstown earlier today. 2: They soon discovered the Tax had expired 6 months ago. 3: Driver tested positive for Cocaine.

“Driver arrested for Drug Driving, car seized for no tax – add a little dangerous driving and this driver is going to have an interesting day out in Court.” the spokesperson said.
