A fire broke out at Sarsfield Court Industrial Estate in Glanmire on Saturday, January 4th, involving a number of vehicles. It is understood that five trucks were alight, with emergency services rushing to the scene at around 6pm that evening.
Several units of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the incident along with Gardai, as the fire effected the trucks and other vehicles in the vicinity. Large clouds of smoke could be seen in the area, with a warning being issued to motorists in the Upper Glanmire Road and Burke’s Cross area, regarding reduced visibility.
A spokesperson for Cork City Fire Brigade said that they were mobilised to the incident shortly after 6pm.
“Cork City Fire Brigade were mobilised to an incident at Greenstar (Panda) at Sarsfield Court Industrial Estate on the 4th January shortly after 18:00 hrs, first arriving appliances arrived shortly thereafter and found a number of vehicles alight,” the spokesperson said.
FOUL PLAY NOT SUSPECTED
Despite being a major blaze, the fire service quickly managed to bring the fire under control, as six units of the brigade dealt with the commercial fire, confining the blaze to a yard.
“A total of 3 pumps, 1 hydraulic platform, 1 water tanker and numerous support vehicles attended the incident. The incident was resolved and handed over to company / other agency; all appliances returned to their stations once the incident was fully dealt with,” the spokesperson confirmed.
In a statement to The Avondhu, a Garda spokesperson said that Gardai assisted local fire services at the scene, adding that no criminal offences have been disclosed and said that ‘foul play is not suspected at this time’.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
