Big midweek game approaching

The next challenge for Araglin promises to be an altogether different proposition as we’ve been drawn against Bride Rovers from the Imokilly division.

The advent of a countywide football competition for junior ‘B’ (1) football teams has been a positive development. We gave a good account of ourselves last year being beaten narrowly (after a replay) by eventual champions Diarmuid Ó Mathunas.

This year we’ve accounted for, it must be said, a very weak St John’s (Kilcorney) team, however, the next challenge promises to be an altogether different proposition as we’ve been drawn against Bride Rovers from the Imokilly division. While football wouldn’t be this club’s first choice game, you can be sure their representatives will be very fit, fast and determined. Neither side has any travelling concerns as the game has been fixed for Kilworth on Wednesday evening next, 5th June at 7.30pm.

It’s a novel pairing and hopefully we’ll have a good crowd present to support the lads.

FIXTURE

Wednesday, 5th June, in Kilworth at 7.30pm, junior B (1) football county championship, Araglin v Bride Rovers.

UNDER STRENGTH ARAGLIN GO DOWN TO LISCARROLL

Araglin 0-03 Liscarroll 2-11

We were missing a lot of key players for this Cavanagh’s of Fermoy division 2 football league match played in Araglin on Monday evening and not surprisingly suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the league leaders. Dooner, Gus, Cain, Paddy Kenneally, Mark Hickey, Brendan Allen, Brian Keane and Tom Browne were unavailable. Those who replaced them did their best against a very decent side and points from Vinny and Dave Browne made it 2 points to 8 at the break. The unavailability of Vincent for the second half sealed our fate and we had to give way on the night. Peter, who played outfield for the second half, got on the scoresheet with a point.

The team that started included: Peter O’Loughlin (0 – 01) in goals; a full back line of John Tobin, Paul Hickey and Tommy Feeney. The half back line was P.J. Ahern, Tom Lyons and Brian O’Gorman; Seamie and Vinny (0 – 01) were midfield. The half forwards were: Dylan Foley, Shay Russell and Neilus Kearney; up front we had Richie Whelan, Dave Browne (0 – 01) and Kevin Fitzgerald. The changes were: Mikey Lyons for Nelius Kearney and Laurence Lomasney for Vincent O’Donoghue. Panel: John Browne.

Referee: Dave O’Farrell Sr. (Mitchelstown).
