Bespoke Hair Salon celebrates four years of luxurious and personal service

Bespoke Hair Salon is celebrating four years in business this year – that’s four years of providing unique and tailored hair care to clients far and wide. Proprietor Deirdre O’Sullivan, at the age of 33, has spent more than half her life in the business of hair, and today is proud to offer a service that is both luxurious and personalised.

Operating outside Mitchelstown near Pollardstown, Deirdre started her career in town as a teenager, where she got “great training” with Majella and Trisha’s Hair Salon, before moving to Australia for a stint when she was 21.

“I owe a lot to them, Majella and Trisha; they taught me a lot and are still there for me if I ever need anything. They have an exceptional hair salon and still to this day I use techniques that they taught me, and gave me a really good work ethic.”

Then in Australia I went to work in a really good salon, but it was hard work. Blondes were massive over there – this was around 2010 – that and balayage, toners and colour correction were huge. Australia was way ahead of Ireland then. I found when I came home that I could do a lot of stuff others couldn’t do.”

Following this, she worked in a busy salon in Cork city where she gained her managerial experience and learned what she needed to run her own business. Deirdre says of all the 10 people who worked there, all are self-employed today.

“It’s a great support network. I always intended to be self-employed, and you’d always have that self-doubt but then when I did it, I thought, ‘Why didn’t I always do this?”

Today she has two full-time staff with her, Nikita and Katelyn, who attend regular training courses so as to stay fully informed of developments in hair care and techniques. Her clients come from near and far, including Clonmel, Thurles, Mallow and Dublin.

Deirdre prides herself in providing transparent prices, and says that what’s of fundamental importance is that the customer understands what’s involved in the upkeep of their look.

“It’s about integrity; get the condition right, and repair from the inside out. We have a great knowledge of products, and if I don’t have it I’ll tell the customer where to get it. I take a more personal approach and plan the ‘hair journey’ with the client. Here, no one is just a number. I understand that everyone has a different budget, and we work within that. I’m not a salesperson. We’re budget-conscious, and advise of all the costs. Not just in the chair, but the upkeep afterwards too.”
