Fermoy native Lorraine Hogan and her husband, Barry Good, are celebrating national recognition at the 2026 Irish Family Business Awards.

Lorraine has been nominated as a finalist for the Rising Star Award, while their family-run farm, De Gud Farm, near Kinsale, is shortlisted for Sustainable Family Business of the Year and Agri Family Business of the Year.

Lorraine is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker, while Barry is an award-winning barley producer and farmer. Both have received a  Pride of Cork Award for their contributions to their local communities.

The name, De Gud, is the Irish-language form of the family surname, Good, whose family’s farming roots in county Cork stretch back almost 400 years, with the current farm in the family’s hands since 1963.

Heritage  and sustainability are at the heart of De Gud Farm. Eight acres are dedicated to wildflower and wild bird cover, alongside mature trees, ongoing tree planting and habitat protection.

As a demonstration farm for the Arable Coast Environment (ACE) EIP project, De Gud Farm is part of an innovative initiative working to reverse the decline of threatened farmland birds along Ireland’s south coast, with a particular focus on the hen harrier. The project explores practical ways to enhance biodiversity alongside productive agriculture, helping protect wildlife and the countryside for future generations.

De Gud Farm is currently up for a People’s Choice Award in the 2026 Irish Family Business Awards People's Choice Awards. Voting is now open online and closes on October 25th. The awards ceremony takes place on 5th November  at The Johnstown Estate, County Meath.
