A local activist this week states that the re-arranged Beechfield Junction in Fermoy is 'the most unnecessary thing that ever happened.
Local Labour Party area representative Assumpta Murphy claims the new junction has proven to be 'a disaster'.
Her statements were sparked by an article in last week's Avondhu which detailed the discussion held at the January Fermoy Municipal District meeting about heavy traffic at Beechfield Junction.
Assumpta Murphy was born and reared at Wolfe Tone Park in the town and so is very familiar with the junction and how traffic interacts at the intersection.
“It’s always been very busy,” she said. “Before lights were installed, the area had a disruption with very heavy traffic for approximately 4 hours out of a 24 but even at these busy times, there were never such tailbacks of traffic as there are now.”
