There are grave concerns in Kilbehenny that if Ballyhoura Development is lost, that large strong communities will thrive while small social inclusion communities will fall behind. This is according to Moss Fitzgerald, who spoke to The Avondhu about how much Ballyhoura Development has done for the people of Kilbehenny.

"In 2002 a new community council committee was set up in Kilbehenny and we invited Carmel Fox, CEO of our LEADER group, Ballyhoura Devolopment to a meeting and it was here that a lasting relationship between Ballyhoura Development and Kilbehenny began, and ten years later it's still going strong."

With the help of Ballyhoura Development, Kilbehenny developed a socio economic plan and when the road through Kilbehenny was bypassed in 2008, this took an awful lot of traffic out of the village and with the help of Ballyhoura, the people in the community pulled together to re-design the village.

Mr Fitzgerald said that the sod for the reconstruction of the community centre was turned in August 2011 and it is expected to be completed in a few months - funding was received from Ballyhoura for this.

They also offered support, grants and courses for the defibrillator training, computer courses, employment schemes, enterprise supports, festival and heritage projects, the historic graves project, Ireland Reaching Out and The Gathering.

"Our LEADER group, Ballyhoura Development Ltd., have helped and supported the people of Kilbehenny for many years and we look forward to their continued support," Mr Fitzgerald said.
