Last Sunday our intermediate football team bridged a 32 year gap to win the Western intermediate championship, following a hard fought win over the Geraldines, winning on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-06.
Ballyduff, playing into a slight wind in the first half, started the brighter, rushing into a four point lead thanks to scores from Mikey Kearney (2), Kevin Casey and Seamus Hannon. Two further points from Mikey Kearney and Jamie Kearney were matched by two from the Geraldines. With the first half almost over, Seamus Hannon and Jamie Hannon combined to play Kevin Casey through on goal, who found the net with well-placed shot. Half time score: Ballyduff 1-06 Geraldines 0-02.
Further scores on resumption from Mikey Kearney and John Twomey kept the Ballyduff scoreboard ticking over. A Geraldines goal with five minutes remaining brought the deficit down to three, but points from Seamus Hannon, Brian Kearney (2) and Will Keane ensured we ran out seven point winners.
Team: Kevin Martin, Tommy Feeney, Tom Molumphy, Kenneth Geary, Jamie Hannon, Shane Kearney, Cian Leamy, Brian Kearney, Stephen Molumphy, Shane Hannon (captain), Seamus Hannon, Jamie Kearney, Mikey Kearney, John Twomey, Kevin Casey. Subs used: Will Keane, Mike Drislane, Colin Keane, David Walsh.
Well done to all involved over the year, particularly to the management team of Diarmuid Flynn, Mike Leamy and Pa Kearney. Thanks to our supporters once again. The Waterford county final will be against De La Salle and is scheduled to be played in two weeks.
