The Avondhu region is a blackspot for farm related injuries and deaths, according to one of the country’s leading safety experts.
Pat Griffin, a senior inspector with the Health and Safety Authority, made the comment in an interview with this newspaper as he and his colleagues work to make the agriculture sector fatality free.
He said that counties Cork and Tipperary see clusters of incidents and his organisation have launched a campaign to prevent further loss of life.
In a wide ranging interview with The Avondhu, Mr Griffin revealed the top problem items on farms in the area, tips for farmers to prevent serious injury and the ongoing fight of his team to halt farm deaths.
