Planning permission has been granted for 43 houses at Sliabh Álainn in Mitchelstown; the plans had been before An Bord Pleanála for the last number of months after objections were made by local resident, Denis McGrath. A second objection, by the Mitchelstown Heritage Society, was deemed invalid by the Board and was not detailed nor addressed in the case.
12 observations had been made in relation to the original planning application made with Cork County Council, which was lodged in December last year. However, the planning permission was still given approval by the council. Mr McGrath then took the case to An Bord Pleanála citing his belief that there were already issues with traffic and access to the existing estate, particularly by users and employees at nearby childcare facility, Bright Sparks.
He also made the case that there was a risk of sewage spillage or leakage due to the proximity to a flood risk zone, and raised questions about the responsibilities of the developer and site owner.
