Five sports clubs from communities across Ireland will be in receipt of grants of €10,000 each, as Huawei has announced a €50,000 sports grant open to clubs across the country.
The Huawei Solar Sports Scheme is aimed at supporting local sports clubs that play a vital role at the heart of their communities.
The scheme has now opened for applications, with clubs invited to apply for funding to enhance facilities, expand participation, or strengthen youth and community development programmes. Applications close on 31st August 2026, with successful recipients announced on 14th September.
The announcement was made at Huawei Ireland Innovation Day 2026: Powering a Greener Future. The event was held at O’Reilly Hall, UCD, bringing together senior decision-makers, engineers, and energy experts to explore the practical realities of Ireland’s transition to sustainable energy and resilient energy supply.

Speaking about the grant, Calvin Lan, CEO, Huawei Ireland said that this investment in community development ‘can also help build a more sustainable and resilient energy future nationwide’.
“Energy costs in Ireland are rising and it has never been more important to consider the sustainable energy options that are readily available for business and consumers.”
The Sports Scheme reflects Huawei’s broader commitment to the communities in which it operates. As Ireland’s solar industry scales rapidly with the country surpassing 2 gigawatts of installed solar capacity last November, Huawei’s mission extends beyond technology deployment to genuine, long-term community investment.
Throughout Huawei Ireland Innovation Day 2026, attendees gained an insight into how green technologies are being deployed at scale – from residential energy systems to commercial and utility-grade infrastructure. Drawing on Irish case studies and global best practice.
