
Rescheduled from Saturday due to bad weather being forecast, this year’s Kilworth Harvest Festival took place in near perfect conditions last Sunday. Traditionally, the centre piece of this community festival has been old style apple pressing – a project overseen by the O’Meara brothers, Cian and Cathal. Cian seemed to be the man doing much of the heavy lifting, as he ferried wheelbarrow loads of apples to the production centre, close to Kilworth playground.
Cian’s good friend, Simon Barber, was also drafted in this year and while more accustomed to crafting specialist jewellery items in his Fermoy workshop, the always dapper jeweller wasn’t afraid to get down and dirty, declaring the selection, sorting and pressing of apples was ‘no bother to him’. Indeed, Cian was able to call on several willing volunteers for this labour intensive business.
