The AOSTA conference held last week in Mitchelstown has been hailed as the best conference ever. Normally held in Charleville, this year's event in The Firgrove Hotel saw a huge crowd gather for the day on Wednesday, April 9 for talks on health, legal issues and stress, as well as enjoying wonderful entertainment.
Throughout the day, there were a number of items on the agenda and by day's end, all those present praised organisers for giving them an informative and fun day.
AOSTA chairperson, Eileen Fitzgerald was MC on the day and she thanked the members of the organising committee for their help, particularly Bridie Millward and Mary McNamara, along with Brendan Scahill from the HSE.
Eleanor O'Connell tackled a subject that is often taboo, but she put the audience at ease with her light and informative delivery on the topic of incontinence and inspired many.
Fermoy based medical herbalist Margaret Noonan then spoke about what herbal medicine can do to treat a range of common and rare ailments and she opened people's eyes to an avenue that they might not otherwise have considered or been aware of.
Mallow solicitor Richard Hammond has been a hit at the conference over the years and he returned this year to speak about the importance of making a will.
The final talk was delivered by Sr Una Boland from Fermoy who spoke about simple ways to relieve stress and small exercises to help mental health.
In between the talks, there was great comic relief, as the comedy duo from Waterford, 'The Bachelors in Trouble' had the audience in stitches with their stories, jokes and songs.
The next AOSTA event is the Mini Jamboree on May 29 in The Hazel Tree in Mallow - anyone interested can contact Bridie Millward on 086 8079612.
