Fermoy Musical Society’s centenary celebrations continued last weekend with the launch of a book chronicling ten decades of shows, musicals and concerts.

The launch took place in Fermoy Community Youth Centre last Saturday evening before a capacity crowd of former and present society members – many of whom travelled long distances to attend. Speaking at the event, special guest, Mayor of County Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn, said, Fermoy Musical Society, had made an enormous cultural and creative contribution to the town.

“It’s one hundred years of entertaining the people of Fermoy and those from surrounding towns and villages. The society’s contribution to cultural life in the town has been immense and it’s entirely fitting that we recognise this tonight. Documenting the shows and their participants over 10 decades is an enormous undertaking and great credit is due to Tom Beresford and all concerned. For my part, I’m delighted to be associated with such an auspicious occasion, the energy and positivity here this evening is incredible” he said.
