A public meeting on inadequate school transport, held in Kades Kounty in Glenville last Wednesday was well attended, with public representatives hearing from many parents and locals affected, and angry, about the systemic and prescribed nature of the school transport scheme.
As it stands, there are 12 children in the Glenville area who have been ‘knocked off the bus’ for 2023; last year, it was 21. The crux of the matter comes down to the fact that the Department of Education provides school transport (which is managed by Bus Éireann on their behalf) to a student’s nearest school, and in some cases their second-nearest school.
In Glenville, this means schools in Carraig na bhFear, Glanmire or even Mayfield in the city. This is despite a legacy of Glenville being part of the Fermoy catchment.
