On May 5th and 6th, clubs are asked to swap their hurleys and footballs for their golf clubs and participate in the 2016 Rebel Og Golf Classic.
This year, Rebel Óg are delighted to announce that Lee Valley Golf and Country Club will host the classic.
The proceeds of the golf classic will be used to fund the Rebel Óg Academy and its development squads.
Speaking at the Ovens venue, chairman of Rebel Óg, John Purcell, said that “Rebel Óg is committed to the youth of Cork GAA, and to the development squads. Rebel Óg, in conjunction with Rebel Óg Coaching, has implemented a significant restructuring of the Development Squad model during the past four years.
“The squads cater for over 500 boys across the county at both regional and county level. The fruits of this labour was displayed in 2015 when Cork captured all seven hurling titles and two football titles in their respective inter-county tournaments.
“To fund this, Rebel Og are holding their annual classic on in May within Lee Valley Golf Club. We hope that clubs, parents of player and local businesses will once again support our fundraising efforts.”
By participating in the Rebel Óg – Cork GAA Golf Classic, you will be playing your part in helping us promote the development squads programme which benefits clubs as well as county teams in the long term.
Incorporated into this classic is the Cork GAA Clubs’ Golf Championship. This proved to be a highly sought after title with Buttevant winning in 2014 and Blackrock will defend their title after victory in 2015.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Rebel Óg to our course and we are sure the course will be in top condition for this prestigious event.”
In addition, a selection of signature holes has been incorporated to add a novelty aspect, with several prizes to be won.
Director at Lee Valley, David Keohane, said that “Lee Valley Golf and Country club are honoured to be hosting the 2016 Rebel Og Golf Classic. Rebel Óg is an organisation that is the heartbeat of our community. It provides young men with the chance to display their sporting talents whilst developing their personal values. Lee Valley has an even closer association with this team in that one of our family members, Ben Keohane, has played with Rebel Óg squads over the last number of years.”
