Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. This year, it will take place on Friday, 18th September, showcasing over 100 venues and 200 free events cross the country for everybody to enjoy.

On Culture Night, arts and cultural organisations and venues of all shapes and sizes extend their opening hours to allow for increased access to the public. Special and unique events and workshops are specifically programmed at participating locations and everything is available free of charge. Among the highlights this year in The Avondhu area is Doneraile Court and Wildlife Park, which will be open from 6pm-8pm.

IMPRESSIVE LINE-UP

On the night a wonderful event is set to take place at the park which will see the unveiling of Eriu, a newly commissioned sculpture by Mary Cooke. There will also be performances by Cuisle Avondhu, Laharn Crossroads Dancers and Doneraile Dramatic Society.

Culture Night is unique and happens because many people share a vision and enthusiasm for enjoying, celebrating and promoting creativity and culture. This in turn reminds us all about the fantastic cultural facilities and resources that we have locally in The Avondhu area and nationally.

Culture night aims to raise the profile of cultural organisations, activities and facilities and make it easier for people to play a role in their local cultural scene. It’s supported by Cork County Council in partnership with the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
