Organisers were delighted recently to launch this year’s event, as Gortnahown Farm once again will host D’hillbillies Barn Dance on Saturday, 5th September.
Thank you so much to everyone who came along! A special word of thanks to Martin Russell and Emily Gorey who were involved in providing and riding out the horse for the group photo. A special word of thanks also to Kevin Quane, who was a Rose Escort recently at the Rose of Tralee and to Eoin Lynch ‘The Slurry King’ of TikTok fame, who came along to launch the event for us.
“We thought 2025 was going to be the last one, but a few of us were talking and we said sure why not do it all over again! We have got some great people involved on the committee and we are delighted to have Mitchelstown Macra on board this year to help organise the event,” said James Kenny, committee member.
The event promises another fantastic night of live music, dancing and plenty of country craic.
Our event is a firm favourite on the local social calendar. The popular event will once again bring the unique atmosphere of an authentic barn dance to Gortnahown, just off the M8 Exit 13 beside Glocca Maura Inn. Gates will open at 8.30pm.
There is an added incentive for those who arrive early, with anyone entering between 8.30pm and 9.30pm receiving a free drink token! Get in early is the advice!
TOP LINE-UP
This year’s line-up features live music from Jimmy O’Donoghue who is kicking things off at 8.30pm and Jimmy will be sure to keep you on the floor dancing. Followed by our headline act Up In Smoke who are an Irish folk and ballad band from Scartaglen, Co. Kerry – the band have played Donegal Rally, INEC Killarney, Scartfest, Castletown Festival Limerick and many more. The band would be no strangers to Macra members having played several Macra events locally.
DJ Doc Martin will close out the night taking to the stage to keep the crowds entertained and the dance floor busy until close.
Tickets are priced at €25, plus booking fee, and are available through Eventmaster. The event is strictly over 18s.
We have also made getting to and from the venue as easy as possible, with a free shuttle bus service operating from The Square in Mitchelstown and from outside The Butchers Bar, Kilworth. Attendees are encouraged to check D’Hillbillies social media channels for the full bus timetable and plan their journey in advance.
WORTHY CAUSE
Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Partners in Learning (PiL) Mitchelstown Small Farmer/ Cooperative initiative in Uganda. PiL is a community linking project drawing on local communities in the developed and developing worlds to combine their skills and learn from each other for the mutual benefit of all concerned with over 20 years. The event gives us an opportunity to raise funds for the initiative, focused on supporting education and opportunities for communities in Uganda. Attendees can therefore enjoy a great night out while also contributing to a worthwhile cause.
