The footpath project to connect the village in Conna with the GAA field is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
The project is a joint effort between Conna Community Council and Cork County Council. Chairperson of Conna Community Council, Pat Lee told The Avondhu that the work has passed the half way mark.
“The footpath will be about half a mile long, and it’s just over half way finished at present. We expect to be finished by the end of May.”
Mr Lee added that the footpath was necessary as ‘it’s completely unsafe to walk down there from the village. There’s a lot of young people using that route especially’.
The project came about through discussions between the Community Council and Senior Engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman, following a deputation brought to the Council by Cllr Noel McCarthy.
This week Cllr McCarthy added his welcome to the new facility. “Credit must go to Brendan O’Gorman and the Community Council in Conna. It will serve as a great amenity to the village.
“It’s something similar to what was done on the Dublin Road in Fermoy lately, the joint project that saw the footpath there extended out to the Old Kilcrumper Cemetery,” he said.
