A summer solstice event is being planned for the evening of June 21 next year, which it is hoped will gather the people of the Blackwater Valley from around the World to create a light, enjoy a party and celebrate the river that is such an integral part of the region. A group from West Waterford are working behind the scenes to get the project up and running. The project is rural based covering Kerry, Cork and Waterford. The initiative is to be officially launched at Lismore Castle on December 21.
